May Allah Accept the Hajj of all the Muslims

Hajj is something exceptional. It’s a once in a lifetime pilgrimage, a journey that really opens your eyes, tests your character and humbles you before our Lord. May the millions of Muslims who attend Hajj this year have their pilgrimage accepted by Allah.

Steps for Hajj At-Tamattu (Umrah and Hajj with a break in between)

  1. Make intention. Pay all your debts. Redress any wrongs you committed against others. Write your will.
  2. If you are a sister, ensure that you have a mahram to travel with you.
  3. Perform ghusl before setting off on your journey.
  4. When you reach the Meeqat put on your IHRAM clothes. Make intention for Hajj At-Tamattu – you will perform UMRAH first. The Rules for Ihram apply.
  5. Start to repeat the talbiyah – men must say this out loud; women say this quietly. Continue to repeat until you reach Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah.
  6. Enter Masjid Al-Haram from As-Salaam gate.
  7. Make TAWAF 7 times (Circle the Kaaba), starting from the Black Stone. Whilst making tawaf recite any dua or make dhikr. Between Rukn Yamani and the Black Stone, repeat the dua: “Our Lord! Grant us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter and protect us from the torment of the Fire.”
  8. When you have finished the 7 tawaf, pray 2 rak’at behind Maqam Ibrahim.
  9. Drink Zam Zam water.
  10. Go to the Safa and Marwah area to perform Sa’ee. Praise Allah  and make Takbeer 3 times and make dua.
  11. Starting from Safa, walk towards Marwah. Mention the Name of Allah, recite Qur’an and make dua while walking. For men, walk faster between the 2 green lights. Walking from Safa to Marwah is one round – you must make 7 rounds in total.
  12. At Marwah, make dua and then walk towards Safa, to complete your second round. As before, mention the Name of Allah, recite Qur’an and make dua while walking.
  13. Keep repeating steps 11 and 12 until you complete 7 rounds. You should end up at Marwah and will have finished performing Sa’ee.
  14. For men, you should now shave or trim all the hair on your head. For women, you should cut ony a fingertip from your hair.
  15. Your Umrah is complete and your can take off your Ihram clothes. The rules for Ihram are now lifted.
  16. When the time comes, 8th Dhul-Hijjah, you will start the next steps to perform HAJJ.
  17. Put on Ihram and pray 2 rak’at.

  20. On the 9th of Dhu-Hijjah, you must leave for ‘ARAFAT, after sunrise. Keep reciting the talbiyah.
