Darren Osborne, the killer and attacker at FInsbury Park Mosque, shows the utmost intolerance for peace-abiding Muslims

It’s finally happened? Actually no! Muslims have been suffering from Islamophobia, fuelled by the media and intolerant sections of society, for almost two decades now. The sickening and revengeful attack by Darren Osborne upon innocent, peace-abiding worshippers at Finsbury Park Mosque, is just a high profile reminder of what Muslims in the UK have had to deal with for many years.

This is just an open example of what many Muslims, and other people from a minority background, have known existed in UK society – a deep and indiscriminate hatred for Muslims; a villifying sentiment that has run through society and been allowed, by the Government, to grow and grow. The media has fuelled this and, with their constant negative portrayal of Muslims, the media should shoulder some of the responsibility of what has happened at Finsbury Park Mosque.

It’s the inaction of the government and the demonisation of Muslims by the media that has led to this tragedy. Why wasn’t this man even on the terrorist squad’s radar? That’s just totally unacceptable and only goes to show that the government’s agenda has been primed against Muslims, and a token gesture to any other form of terrorism from white extremists.

This approach by the media and government is what seeds discord and divides communities – not the innocent Muslims!! It’s time people realised the hypocrisy of what is going on.

The face of a murderer, who planned his attack against innocents – will he be seen as a hero or terrorist?

Not only did this man live next to Muslims, he harboured his desire to harm others and planned his way to destroying the lives of not only those who died and were injured in the attack, but the lives of their families, friends and their communities.

This man is a coward! And those who support him cannot be described as anything but the worst of society.

There are many who support this coward’s actions – just visit Twitter and you will see the reaction of those who have hate flowing in their veins. Are they rounded up? Arrested? Thrown into prison for their intolerance and their inciting hatred?

And look at the response of those within the community!

Has the community around the Muslims come to their defence as readily as for any other attack we have witnessed on our screens recently? Are there hundreds and thousands of people crying for the injured and the dead in this attack?

Will the non-Muslim communities be pressured by the authorities to monitor individuals, and report them to the Counter Terrorism Squad?

Will the non-Muslim communities be made to speak out and denounce the actions of this terrorist, Darren Osborne?

Has the media covered the story with the same drive for justice as they had in previous incidents? Are their news-streams littered with analysis and constant reporting of eyewitnesses? Is their tone as serious as for other incidents?

Did the government’s counter-terrorist squad shoot down this Darren Osborne, as they have done with all the other attacks? Have they questioned the community at length and gone into the community, investigating and looking for further perpetrators, asking people to spy on their neighbours?

Did the Police ask for eyewitnesses to send in their videos to them?

Was the response of those who have been so vocal in the past, anywhere near as vocal as when a tragedy hits Muslims?

One of the homes connected to Darren Osborne under investigation by the Police. Was anyone raided in the middle of the night and women left terrified by strange, intimidating police officers banging the door down?

The answer, unfortunately, is No! No! No!

Only a few honest and kind-hearted individuals have come to the assistance of this Muslim community, who have suffered abuse and intolerance and racial undertones for many a year.

Only a few. Where are the rest of you good people?

boycott foa

Bismillah-hir Rahman-nir Raheem (in the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

During Ramadan and fasting, it’s Sunnah to break your fast with dates. However, there is a campaign to boycott certain dates because the manufacturers are either directly or indirectly responsible and supporting the illegal occupation of Palestine the oppression of the Palestinians. By buying their dates, you will be helping to continue the occupation of Muslim lands in Palestine.

I have copied the below article from the Friends of Al-Aqsa website:

This Ramadan, Don’t Break your Fast with an Israeli Date

Ramadan is a time of year when we remember those who are less fortunate than ourselves.  It  would be an affront if at such a time we helped support oppression

Every year, Israel exports millions of pounds worth of dates to the world, which many people unknowingly buy and use to break their fasts. These dates are grown in illegal settlements in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley, on land that has been stolen from Palestinians. By buying these dates, we are in fact helping Israel to continue its occupation and oppression of the Palestinian people.

For this reason, Friends of Al Aqsa will again be launching the ‘Check the Label’ Campaign.

Volunteer Ambassador

Volunteer to be an ambassador for the Check the Label Campaign in your area. This will mean you will help promote the campaign in your area. This will include distributing leaflets, speaking to shop owners, setting up stalls and much more. become an Ambassador and order your free literature to help spread the word.

Check The Label

Most of the major supermarkets will stock dates produced in Israel, West Bank and the Jordan Valley. Dates produced in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley are from Illegal Israeli Settlements and should also be boycotted.

Making Money from the Occupation

  • Dates were Israel’s leading fruit export, most of which come to Europe
  • The total income for Israel from dates in a year is approximately €80 million.

The Palestinian Call for Boycott Divestment and Sanctions

Inspired by the struggle of South Africans against apartheid and in the spirit of international solidarity, moral consistency and resistance to injustice and oppression,

We, representatives of Palestinian civil society, call upon international civil society organizations and people of conscience all over the world to impose broad boycotts and implement divestment initiatives against Israel similar to those applied to South Africa in the apartheid era. We appeal to you to pressure your respective states to impose embargoes and sanctions against Israel. We also invite conscientious Israelis to support this Call, for the sake of justice and genuine peace.

These non-violent punitive measures should be maintained until Israel meets its obligation to recognize the Palestinian peoples inalienable right to self-determination and fully complies with the precepts of international law by:

  1. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall;
  2. Recognizing the fundamental rights of the Arab-Palestinian citizens of Israel to full equality; and
  3. Respecting, protecting and promoting the rights of Palestinian refugees to return to their homes and properties as stipulated in UN resolution 194.

Palestinian Workers

Israelis will claim that Palestinians are allowed to work on the land of these settlers and therefore they are provided with jobs and a boycott will harm them. In actual fact, these Palestinians are employed for paltry wages, and they are required to do the back-breaking work that the Israeli settlers will not do themselves. This means the Israeli settlers reap the rewards for the harvests while doing very little of the work themselves.

Palestinian children are employed by these settlers, and they are forced to work long hours under a hot baking sun for small sums of money. This exploitation means that these children miss out on an education.

Alternatives to Israeli Dates

There are plenty of varieties of dates from various other countries to break your fast. However if you would like  Medjoul dates from Palestine and  help the Palestinian farmers they are available from  YAFFA. YAFFA source there dates from Palestine and FOA are helping YAFFA distribute dates this Ramadhan.

Another provider is Zaytoun, www.zaytoun.org

Get Involved

There are two stages to this campaign:

Stage 1 – Contact and inform the wholesalers and shops.

Stage 2 – Contact and inform consumers.

Stage One

FOA have sent letters to over 1000 wholesalers and shops but we need your help to add the personal touch as that is the best method to encourage people to join the campaign.

There are 6 steps to this stage. We would like you to:

Preparation:

  1. If you can try and involve family and friends in the campaign.
  2. Print letters for Wholesalers and Shop Owners: Click here for the letter.
  3. Order Check the Label posters and postcards from dates@checkthelabel.org.uk so you can put poster up on shop windows and leave postcards on the counter (with permission)

Method:

  1. Identify the wholesalers, importers and shops in your area hand deliver the wholesaler/shop letters supplied by FOA.  Inform them about Israeli human rights abuses (you can give them of FOA leaflets).
  2. Tell wholesalers and shop owners about the concept of boycotting and how it has worked e.g. South Africa. Ask them to boycott dates from Israel, West Bank and the Jordan Valley. Explain West Bank and Jordan Valley are illegally occupied and buying dates from there would mean they are supporting the occupation of Palestine.
  3. Let them know that they can buy dates from many other countries, but if they want to buy medjoul dates from Palestine they can contact medjoul@checkthelabel.org.uk, (+44) (0)116 2125 441 or Zaytoun on (+44) (0)207 609 5699
  4. Keep in touch with the shops that you have approached and continue to encourage and support them to join the campaign.
  5. Write down addresses of shops which agree to support the campaign so we can write a letter to them to thank them for their support.
  6. Take pictures of the campaign and keep head office updated on your work in your locality.

Stage Two

Most of the people we have approached during the Check the Label campaign did not know dates are from Israel and also did not know that dates labelled West Bank or the Jordan Valley should also be Boycotted.   Once they were told, the overwhelming majority of people were happy to join the boycott.

Boycott is about people power.  We need your help to inform people they should ‘Check the Label’ and boycott dates from Israel, West Bank and Jordan Valley.

Preparation:

  1. If you can try and involve family and friends in the campaign.
  2. Print letters for mosques and organisations : Click here for the letter
  3. Order Check the Label posters and postcards from here so you can put poster up on shop windows and leave postcards on the counter (with permission).

Method:

  1. Identify Mosques and Community Centres in your area and hand deliver the Mosque/organisation letter supplied by FOA.  Inform them about Israeli human rights abuses (you can give them of FOA leaflets).
  2. Tell the mosque/ community centre contact about the concept of boycotting and how it has worked e.g. South Africa. Ask them to boycott dates from Israel, West Bank and the Jordan Valley. Explain West Bank and Jordan Valley are illegally occupied and buying dates from there would mean they are supporting the occupation of Palestine.
  3. Ask them if you can leave leaflets at the entrance and put up a poster
  4. Organise a time with friends and family to distribute outside the mosque after prayers, especially after Friday prayers.
  5. Let FOA know when you are planning to distribute outside mosques so we can try and co-ordinate with other volunteers.
  6. Contact your local newspaper and your local radio Ramadhan to let them know what is happening. Take photos when it is appropriate  and send updates to info@checkthelabel.org.uk

Ramadan is the 9th month of the Islamic calendar. It is during this month that the Shayateen are locked away in chains, that the first verses of the Qur’an were revealed and Laylat-ul-Qadr is to be found:

‘The month of Ramadan, in which was revealed the Qur’an, a guidance for mankind and clear proofs for the guidance and the  criterion (between what is right and wrong)’ Surat Al-Baqarah v185

‘Verily! We have sent it (the Qur’an) down in Laylat-ul-Qadr (the Night of Decree). And what will make you know what the Night of Decree is? The Night of Decree is better than one thousand months..’ Surat Al-Qadr, v1-3

‘When the month of Ramadan arrives, the doors of Heaven are opened, the doors of Hell are closed and the devils put under chains.’ [Bukhari and Muslim]

Benefits of Fasting and Ramadan

Allah Commanded us to fast. It’s the one deed that is purely for Allah alone. And the benefits of fasting are many:

The Prophet (pbuh) said that Allah said: ‘The Fast is for Me and I will give the reward for it, as he (the one who observes the fast) leaves his sexual desire, food and drink for My Sake. Fasting is a screen (from hell), and there are two moments of pleasure (moments of happiness or joys) for a fasting person, one at the time of breaking his fast and the other at the time when he will meet his Lord. And the smell of the mouth of a fasting person is better in Allah’s Sight than the smell of musk.’ [Bukhari]

Allah declared: ‘O you have believed! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was ordained for those before you, so that you may become Al-Muttaqoon (the pious).’ Surat Al-Baqarah v183

‘Whoever observes (fasts) during the month of Ramadan out of sincere faith and hoping to attain Allah’s Rewards, then all his past sins will be forgiven.’ [Bukhari & Muslim]

Abu Ayyoob al-Ansaari narrated that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said, “Whoever fasts Ramadaan then follows it with six days of Shawwaal, it will be like fasting for a lifetime.” [Sahih Muslim]

The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said, “Whoever fasts Ramadaan, a month is like ten months, and fasting six days after al-Fitr will complete the year.” [Ahmad]

‘Allah’s Messenger (pbuh) said: My nation is given 5 privileges in the month of Ramadan that no nation was given before:

  • The khaloof (odour of the mouth of a fasting person) is sweeter in the sight of Allah than the fragrance of musk
  • The angels keep praying to Allah to forgive the fasting people until they break their fast
  • Allah decorates Paradise every day saying to it ‘My righteous slaves are about to be comforted of their burdens and sufferings and enter you’
  • The Shayateen are chained during this month
  • Sins of the believers are forgiven  by the last night of Ramadan. [Muslim]

hajj

Bismillah-hir Rahman-nir Raheem (in the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

May Allah Accept the Hajj of all the Muslims

Hajj is something exceptional. It’s a once in a lifetime pilgrimage, a journey that really opens your eyes, tests your character and humbles you before our Lord. May the millions of Muslims who attend Hajj this year have their pilgrimage accepted by Allah.

Steps for Hajj At-Tamattu (Umrah and Hajj with a break in between)

  1. Make intention. Pay all your debts. Redress any wrongs you committed against others. Write your will.
  2. If you are a sister, ensure that you have a mahram to travel with you.
  3. Perform ghusl before setting off on your journey.
  4. When you reach the Meeqat put on your IHRAM clothes. Make intention for Hajj At-Tamattu – you will perform UMRAH first. The Rules for Ihram apply.
  5. Start to repeat the talbiyah – men must say this out loud; women say this quietly. Continue to repeat until you reach Masjid Al-Haram in Makkah.
  6. Enter Masjid Al-Haram from As-Salaam gate.
  7. Make TAWAF 7 times (Circle the Kaaba), starting from the Black Stone. Whilst making tawaf recite any dua or make dhikr. Between Rukn Yamani and the Black Stone, repeat the dua: “Our Lord! Grant us goodness in this world and goodness in the Hereafter and protect us from the torment of the Fire.”
  8. When you have finished the 7 tawaf, pray 2 rak’at behind Maqam Ibrahim.
  9. Drink Zam Zam water.
  10. Go to the Safa and Marwah area to perform Sa’ee. Praise Allah  and make Takbeer 3 times and make dua.
  11. Starting from Safa, walk towards Marwah. Mention the Name of Allah, recite Qur’an and make dua while walking. For men, walk faster between the 2 green lights. Walking from Safa to Marwah is one round – you must make 7 rounds in total.
  12. At Marwah, make dua and then walk towards Safa, to complete your second round. As before, mention the Name of Allah, recite Qur’an and make dua while walking.
  13. Keep repeating steps 11 and 12 until you complete 7 rounds. You should end up at Marwah and will have finished performing Sa’ee.
  14. For men, you should now shave or trim all the hair on your head. For women, you should cut ony a fingertip from your hair.
  15. Your Umrah is complete and your can take off your Ihram clothes. The rules for Ihram are now lifted.
  16. When the time comes, 8th Dhul-Hijjah, you will start the next steps to perform HAJJ.
  17. Put on Ihram and pray 2 rak’at.
  18. Start to repeat the talbiyah – men must say this out loud; women say this quietly. Got o Mina and continue to repeat the talbiyah until you reach Mina. You shoudl reach Mina before noon (the camps of Mina are shown below).

    TENT-CITY

  19. Pray all your prayers in MINA – you can shorten the 4 rak’at prayers to 2 rak’at but you do not combine them. Stay in Mina until the sunrise of the 9th Dhul-Hijjah.
  20. On the 9th of Dhu-Hijjah, you must leave for ‘ARAFAT, after sunrise. Keep reciting the talbiyah.
  21. You must reach the boundaries of ‘Arafat. Listen to the khutba at Masjid Nimra at noon (if possible) but remember that Masjid Nimra is outside the boundary of ‘Arafat. Pray Dhuhr and ‘Asr at ‘Arafat.

    sau_arafat2

  22. Spend the whole day within the boundaries of ‘Arafat and spend the whole day asking Allah for His Forgiveness. Make Repentance and make dua for the Muslims.
  23. After sunset, you must leave ‘Arafat and head towards Muzdalaifah. Recite the talbiyah until you reach Muzdalaifah.

    muzdalaifah

  24. On reaching Muzdalaifah, pray Maghrib and ‘Isha together (shorten the ‘Isha prayer to 2 rak’at). You must now spend the night at Muzdalaifah.
  25. It is now 10th Dhul-Hijjah (it will be Eid-Ul-Adha for everyone else who isn’t on Hajj). Pray Fajr at Muzdalaifah.
  26. Go to Mina and recite the talbiyah until you stone the Jamraat Al-‘Aqabah.

    go-makkah-hajj-oumra-6076l8-jamarat-bridge-hajj-2010jpg

  27. On reaching Mina, ensure that you have 7 stones for throwing at the Jamraat Al-‘Aqabah. Go to the Jamraat and throw the 7 stones (one at a time), making Takbeer with each one. There is no need to lose your temper whilst doing this – just throw calmly.
  28. After throwing the stones, this is the time for slaughtering an animal. For most people, this will have been arranged through your Hajj booking agent.

    eid-ul-adha_hajj

  29. Next, get your hair trimmed or shaved (for women, you just trim a fingertip’s length from your hair, like you did for Umrah). At this point most of the rules of Ihram are now lifted (apart from sexual intercourse, which is still prohibited). Keep on your Ihram clothes.

  33. Drink Zam Zam water.
  34. Go to the Safa and Marwah area to perform Sa’ee. Praise Allah  and make Takbeer 3 times and make dua.
  35. Starting from Safa, walk towards Marwah. Mention the Name of Allah, recite Qur’an and make dua while walking. For men, walk faster between the 2 green lights. Walking from Safa to Marwah is one round – you must make 7 rounds in total.
  36. At Marwah, make dua and then walk towards Safa, to complete your second round. As before, mention the Name of Allah, recite Qur’an and make dua while walking.
  37. Keep repeating steps 35 and 36 until you complete 7 rounds. You should end up at Marwah and will have finished performing Sa’ee.
  38. Leave to go to Mina and spend the night in Mina. Pray in Mina, praying 2 rak’at for Isha but do not combine the prayers.
  39. It is now 11th Dhul-Hijjah. Go to the Jamraat area and, starting with the smallest jamraat (Jamraat As-Sughra), throw 7 stones (one after each other) at the jamraat – make Takbeer with each stone.

Paradise: The Eternal Abode

This is taken from the book, Paradise and Hell by Dr. Umar Al-Ashqar

The Poor Will Enter Jannah Ahead of the Rich

Muslim reports from ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Amr (ra) that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said “The poor of the Muhajireen Paradise forty years ahead of the rich”. (Mishkaat al-Masaabeeh, 2/663, no. 5235)

at-Tirmidhi reported from Abu Sa’eed, and Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi and Ibn Maajah reported from Abu Hurayrah, that of Allaah (saw) said: “The poor of the Muhajireen will enter Paradise five hundred years ahead of the Muhajireen” (Saheeh al-Jaami’ 4/90, no.4104).

Elsewhere the Prophet (saw) explained that these are the people who have nothing to be brought account for, addition to their jihaad and virtue. al-Haakim reported from ‘Abdullaah ibn ‘Amr that the Messenger of Allaah (know who will be the first of my ummah to enter Paradise?” I said, “Allaah and His Messenger know “The poor of the Muhajireen. They will come to the gate of Paradise on the Day of Resurrection and opened. The gatekeepers will say to them, “Have you been brought to account?” They will say, “What be brought to account for? We were carrying our swords and fighting for the sake of Allaah (swt) until Then the gates will be opened for them and they will stay there for forty years before anyone else enters”. Hadith as-Saheehah, 2/532, no. 853, al-Haakim said it is sahih according to the conditions of al-Bukhaari and Muslim).

al-Bukhaari reports from Usaamah ibn Zayd that the Prophet (saw) said, “I stood by the gate of Paradise and majority of those who entered were the poor and wretched. The rich [Muslims] were detained while Hell were ordered to be taken to Hell”. (Sahih al-Bukhaari, Kitaab ar-Riqaaq, BAab Sifaat al-Jannah, wan 2/345)

Some of the hadith quoted above stated that the poor will enter Paradise forty years ahead of other people while the difference will be five hundred years. The two statements may be reconciled by pointing out that the poor a neither are the rich. As al-Qurtubee suggested (at-Tadhkirah, p.470) the poor vary in the strength of their imaan achievements, and the same applies to the rich. If we think in terms of the first of the poor and the last of the Paradise then the time-span will be five hundred years, but if we are thinking of the last of the poor and the first the time span is forty years. And Allaah knows best.” (Ibn Katheer, an-Nihaayah, 2/345)

The First Three to Enter Jannah

at-Tirmidhi reported with a hasan isnaad from Abu Hurayrah that the Prophet (saw) said: “I was shown the first three to enter Paradise: the Shaheed (the martyr); the one who is chaste and slave who worships Allaah (swt) with devotion and is faithful and sincere towards his master” 10/535, attributed to Ahmad, al-Haakim and al-Bayhaqi)

The Sinners Among the Believers Will Enter Paradise

They will be brought forth from Hell and will enter Paradise by means of intercession.

Muslim reports from Abu Sa’eed that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said: “The people of Hell will remain there, never dying, and never living. But there are people who will enter of their sins, and will be killed therein, so that they become like coals. Permission will be granted for be made, and they will be brought forth in groups and spread on rivers of Paradise, and it will be said, Paradise, pour water on them. Then they will grow like seeds in the silt left by a flood”. [Muslim, Kitaab as-Shafa’ah wa Ikhraaj al-Muwahiddin min an-Naar, 1/172]

Muslim also reports from Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullaah that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said, “Some people will be the Fire, having been burnt all over except for their faces, and they will enter Paradise”. [Muslim, Kitaab Baab adna Ahl al-Jannah Manzilatan, 1/178]

The people of Paradise will call these people who are brought out of Hell and admitted to Paradise,

al Bukhaari reports from ‘Imraan ibn Husayn (ra) that the Prophet (saw) said, “Some people will be brought out the intercession of Muhammad (saw). They will enter Paradise and will be known as al-Jahannamiyyoon.” Bukhaari, Kitaab ar-Riqaaq, Baab Sifaat al-Jannah wan-Naar, Fath al-Baari, 11/418. They are also mentioned in from Jaabir by Muslim, 1/179 and al-Bukhaari from Anas, Fath al-Baari 11/416]

According to another sahih hadith narrated by Jaabir: “The Prophet (saw) said, “They will be brought out of intercession, as if they are tha’areer”. I asked, “What are tha’areer?” He said, “Daghabis [snake cucumbers]”” Bukhaari, Kitaab ar-Riqaaq, Baab Sifaah al-Jannah wan-Naar, Fath al-Baari, 11/416]

Muslim reports a lengthy hadith from Abu Hurayrah, in which the Prophet (saw) describes the Hereafter, and in “…When Allaah (swt) has finished judging mankind, and wants to bring whomever He wills out of Hell He will order angels to bring forth those upon who He wishes to bestow His mercy of the people who associated anything in worship with Allaah (swt), and who said, “Laa ilaaha illaah Allaah”. The angels them in Hell, and will known them by the mark of sujood on their foreheads. The Fire will consume except the mark of sujood which Allaah (swt) has forbidden the Fire to consume. They will be brought been burned in the Fire, the water of life will be poured on then, and they will grow like seeds left by flood”. [Saheeh Muslim, Kitaab al-Imaan, Baab ar-Ru’yah, 1/299, no. 182]

It was reported in more than one hadith that Allaah (swt) will bring forth from hell whoever has a dinaar’s weight heart, or even half a dinaar’s weight or an atom’s weight. Moreover, people will be brought forth who never did all. Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri reported that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said, “Allaah (swt) will admit the people to Paradise and He will admit whomsoever He will by His Mercy. And He will admit the people of Hell will say, “Look for anyone who has the weight of a mustard seed of faith in his heart, and bring him Muslim, Kitaab al-Imaan, Baab Ithbat ash-Shafa’ah wa Ikhraaj al-Muwwahhadeen, 1/172]

One of the reports about Hell is the hadeeth narrated by Jaabir ibn ‘Abdullaah (ra) concerning entering Hellfire: “Then intercession will be permitted and they will interceded until whoever says Laa ilaaha illa Allaah barley grain’s worth of goodness in his heart will be brought forth. They will be made to stand in the paradise and the people of Paradise will start to pour water over them, until they begin to grow like after a flood. All traces of the Fire will disappear, then he [the person who was brought out of Hell] until he is given the equivalent of this world and ten times more”. [Sahih Muslim, Baab adna Ahl al 1/178]

Anas ibn Maalik reported that the Prophet (saw) said: “Whoever says Laa ilaaha illaa Allaah and has a barely weight of goodness in his heart will be brought out of the Fire. Then whoever says, “Laa ilaaha illaa a wheat grains weight of goodness in his heart will be brought out of the Fire. Then whoever says, Laa Allaah and has an atom’s-weight of goodness in his heart will be brought out of the Fire”. Imaan, Baab adna Ahl al-Jannah Manzilatan, 1/182]

There are many hadiths that discuss this matter.

Paradise: The Eternal Abode

This is taken from the book, Paradise and Hell by Dr. Umar Al-Ashqar

Paradise is the tremendous reward which Allaah (swt) Has Prepared for His beloved (awliyaa) and those who obey complete joy and pleasure, where nothing is lacking and nothing can disturb its purity. What Allaah (swt) told us about it makes out heads spin because our minds are not able to comprehend the greatness of such blessings.

Listen to the words of Allaah (swt) in this hadith qudsi:

“I have prepared for My righteous slaves that which no eye has seen, no ear has heard and has never mind of any human being”.

Then the Prophet (saw) said, “Recite, if you wish: “No person knows what is kept hidden for them of joy for what they used to do” . (32:17)

The joys of Paradise are far greater than the pleasures of this world, which pale into insignificance in comparison. reports from Sahl ibn Sa’d as-Sa’idee that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said: “A space the size of a whip in better than this world and al that is in it”. (Fath al-Baari, 6/319, an-Nawawi’s commentary on Muslim 17/166)

Because admittance to Paradise and salvation from the Fire are according to Allaah’s Will and Judgement, it is a tremendous success, as Allaah (swt) says:

“Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden, will have indeed attained the object been successful]” (3:185)

“Allaah Has Promised to believers – men and women – Gardens under which rivers flow, to dwell therein and beautiful mansions in Gardens of everlasting bliss. But the greatest bliss is the Good Pleasure of the supreme felicity [or success]”. (9:72)

“…and those who obey Allaah and His Messenger will be admitted to Gardens with rivers flowing underneath, abide therein [forever] and that will be the supreme achievement”. (4:13)

Admittance to Paradise

There is no doubt that the joy of the believers will be incomparable when they are led, group by honourable group, to the blessed Gardens of Paradise.

When they reach Paradise its gates will be opened for them, and they will be welcomed by noble angels congratulating their safe arrival after suffering so much hardship and witnessing so much horror:

“And those who feared their Rabb will be led to the garden in crowds, until, behold, they arrive there; its gates will be opened and its keepers will say “Peace be upon you! Well have you done! Enter here, to dwell therein”. (39:73)

In other words, your words, thoughts and deeds were good so your hearts and souls became pure and for that you deserve Paradise.

The Believers Will Be Purified Before They Enter Paradise

After the Believers have passed over as-Siraat (the bridge over Hell), they will be kept on a bridge between Paradise and Hell, where they will be purified by means of their settling any wrongs that existed between any of them in this world. Then when they enter paradise they will be pure and clean, none of them bearing any ill-will towards another or demanding anything of another.al-Bukhaari reported from Abu Sa’eed al-Khudri (ra) that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said:

“The believers will be saved from the Fire then they will be kept on a bridge between Paradise and Hell. They will settle their accounts with one another for any wrongs that existed between them in this world, until they are purified and cleansed, and will be permitted to enter Paradise. By the One in Whose hand is the soul of Muhammad, each of them will know his dwelling in Paradise better than he knew his dwelling in this world”. (Sahih al-Bukhaari, Kitaab ar-Riqaaq, Baab al-Qisas Yawm al-Qiyamah, Fath al-Baari, 11/395)

Our Prophet (saw) will be the first to ask for the gates of paradise to be opened, after Aadam, the father of mankind, and all the other great Prophets refuse this task.

The First People to Enter Paradise

The first of mankind to enter Paradise will be our Prophet Muhammad (saw) and the first nation to enter Paradise will be his ummah. The first member of this ummah to enter will be Abu Bakr as-Siddiq (ra).

Ibn Katheer quotes a number of Hadith [an-Nihayah, 2/213] that state this such as the report of Muslim from Anas (ra) according to which the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said, “I will be the first one to knock at the gates of Paradise”.

Muslim also reported from Anas that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said: “I will come to the gates of paradise and ask for it to be opened. The gatekeeper will ask, “Who are you?” I will say, “Muhammad”. The gatekeeper will say, “I was ordered not to open the gate for anyone else before you””.

Al-Bukhaari, Muslim and an-Nasaa’ee report from Abu Hurayrah (ra) that the Prophet (saw) said: “We are the last, but we will be the first on the Day of Resurrection. We will be the first of mankind to enter Paradise”.

Abu Dawood reports from Abu Hurayrah (ra) that the Prophet (saw) said, “Jibreel came to me, and showed me the gate of Paradise through which my ummah will enter”. Abu Bakr said, “O Messenger of Allaah (saw), would that I had been with you to see it!”. The Messenger of Allaah (saw) “But you, O Abu Bakr, will be the first of my ummah to enter Paradise”.

Those Who Will Enter Paradise Without Being Called to Account

The first group of this ummah who will enter Paradise will be those who were pre-eminent in their imaan, taqwaa, righteous deeds and adherence to the true religion. They will enter Paradise in one rank: the first of them will not enter until the last of them enters, and they will be as beautiful as the full moon.

Al-Bukhaari reports from Abu Hurayrah (ra) that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said:

“The first group to enter Paradise will be as beautiful as the full moon. They will not spit, blow their noses or excrete. Their vessels will be fo gold, their combs of gold and silver, their incense o aloe, and their sweat of musk. Each of them will have two wives, the marrow of whose leg-bones will be visible through their flesh because of their extreme beauty. There will be no differences or hatred among them (the people of Paradise); their hearts will be as one, and they will glorify Allaah (swt) morning and evening”. (Kitaab Bid’ al-Khalq, Baab Ma Jaa’ fi Sifaat al-Jannah, Fath al-Baari, 6/318; Muslim, at-Tirmidhi)

Al-Bukhaari reports from Sahl ibn Sa’d (ra) that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said: “Seventy thousand – or seven hundred thousand – of my ummah will enter Paradise; the first of them will not enter until the last of them does so, and their faces will look like the full moon”. (Fath al-Baari, 6/319)

It is true that with each one of these seventy, Allaah (swt) will give His Prophet seventy thousand. Ahmad reports with a saheeh isnaad from Abu Bakr (ra) that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said:

“I have been given seventy thousand of my ummah, who will enter Paradise without being called to account. Their faces will be like the full moon, and their hearts will be as one. I asked my Rabb, may He be glorified, for more, and He gave me, along with each of them, seventy thousand more”. (Saheeh al-Jaami’, 1/350, no. 1068)

Ahmad, at-Tirmidhi, and Ibn Hibbaan report with a saheeh isnaad from Abu Umaamah that the Messenger of Allaah (saw) said, “My Rabb promised me that seventy thousand of my ummah would enter Paradise without being called to account and without being punished, and with each one will be seventy thousand, and three handfuls of people picked up by my Rabb [i.e. it will be a great number]”. (Saheeh al-Jaami’ 6/108, no. 2988).

The Prophet (saw) described the characteristics of these seventy thousand.

Al-Bukhaari reports from Ibn ‘Abbaas that the Prophet (saw) said, “I was shown the nations, and I saw a Prophet pass by with a group of his people, and another with a band of his people, another with only ten, another with five, and another on his own (with no followers). Then I looked and saw a large crowd of people. I asked, “O Jibreel, are these my ummah?” He said, “No, but look at the horizon.” So I looked, and saw a huge multitude of people. Jibreel said, “These are your ummah, and those seventy thousand in front will not be called to account or punished.” I asked, “Why?” He said, “They did not treat themselves with branding (cauterisation) or with ruqyaa (charms) and they did not see evil omens in things (i.e they were not superstitious): they put their trust only in their Rabb””. ‘Ukaasha ibn Mihsan stood up and said, “Pray to Allaah (swt) to make me one of them”. The Prophet (saw) said, “O Allaah (swt) make him one of them”. Then another man stood up and said, “Ask Allaah (swt) to make me one of them”. The Prophet (saw) said, ‘Ukaasha has preceded you”. (Saheeh al-Bukhaari, Kitaab ar-Riqaaq, Baab Yadhkul al-Jannah Sab’un Alfan bi Ghayri Hisaab, Fath al-Baari, 11/405)

These may be the ones whom Allaah (swt) has called al-Muqarraboon (those nearest to Allaah swt):

“And those foremost [in faith] will be foremost [in the Hereafter]. These will be those nearest to Allaah [al-Muqarraboon], in the Gardens of Bliss”. (56:10-12)

More of them will come from the early generations than from the later generations:

“A multitude of those [foremost] will be from the first generations [who embraced Islaam], and a few of those [foremost] will be from the later generations”. (56:13-14)

  1. Ending its occupation and colonization of all Arab lands and dismantling the Wall;

[Muslim]

Mahdi med

Bismillah-hir Rahman-nir Raheem (in the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

The Mahdi will come at the end of times, in a period when the world is full of trials, wrongdoing and lacking justice. He will set aright the affairs of the Muslims and lead the believers in a number of battles. He will come in the years preceding the Dajaal.

Ibn Mas’ud (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Even if only one day was left of this world, Allah Would Make that day long so that He Could Send a man who is of me or of my family, whose name is the same as my name and whos father’s name is the same as my father’s name.” [At-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud]

Abu Sa’eed Al-Khudri (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The Mahdi is of me. He has a high forehead and a prominent nose. He will fill the world with fairness and justice as it was filled with wrongdoing and injustice, and he will rule for seven years.” [Abu Dawud]

Ali (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The Mahdi is one of us, from our family; Allah Will Prepare him in one night.” [Al-Musnad]

The Mahdi is from the lineage of the Prophet (ﷺ), a descendant of his daughter, Fatima (ra), through Al-Hasan ibn Ali (ra). His name will be Muhammad ibn Abd’Allah.

Where will the Mahdi appear?

Thawbaan (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Three will fight one another for your treasure, each one of them being the son of a caliph but none of them will gain it. Then the black banners will come from the east and they will kill you in an unprecedented manner.” Then he mentioned something that I [Thawbaan] do not remember, then he said, “When you see him, then pledge your allegiance to him even if you have to crawl over the snow.” [Ibn Maajah]

Umm Salamah (ra) that the Messenger of Allah صلى الله عليه وسلم said: “Disagreement will occur at the death of a caliph and a man from Madeenah will flee to Makkah. Some of the people of Makkah will come to him, bring him out against his will and give bay’ah to him between the Rukn (Black Stone) and the Maqaam. An expeditionary force will then be sent against him from Syria but will be swallowed up in Al-Bayda’, between Makkah and Madeenah. When the people see that, the devoted worshippers from Syria and the best people of Iraq will come to him and swear allegiance to him. Then there will arise a man of Quraysh whose maternal uncles are from Kalb. He will send an army against [the Mahdi] and [the Mahdi’s followers] will prevail over them. That [defeated army[ will be the force of Kalb. The real loser will be the one who is not present when the wealth of Kalb is divided. He [the Mahdi] will divide the wealth, and will rule the people by the Sunnah of the Prophet (peace be upon him). Islam will be established on Earth and he will remain seven years, then he will die and the Muslims will offer the funeral prayer for him.” [At-Tabarani] According to another narration the length of his rule will be 9 years [Abu Dawud]

What the Mahdi is NOT

He is not the claimed mahdi of the Ahmadiyya (Qadiyani, also known as Mirzaiy) – Mirza Ghulam Ahmad is one of the lesser dajaals.

He is not the claimed mahdi of the Shia, who say that he is the 12th imam of a chain of imams, who has been living in the tunnel of Samurra for more than 1000 years, since the year 260AH.

Dajaal 6 med

Bismillah-hir Rahman-nir Raheem (in the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

There is no fitna that we have been warned against more than the Fitna of the Dajjaal. It will be such that many people, Muslims included, will fall prey to it. So you need to be on your guard against this.

The Followers of the Dajaal

There will be many followers of the Dajaal, including weak and misguided Muslims, disbelievers and hypocrites.

Abu Bakr (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The Dajaal will emerge from a land in the East called Khorasan and he will be followed by people with faces like hammered shields.” [Ahmad, Tirmidhi, Ibn-Maajah, Al-Haakim]

Khorasan is a large city which is in Iran.

khorasanWV

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “The Dajaal will camp in the salt marshes and most of those who go out to him will be women; a man will go to his relatives, to his mother, daughter, sister, and paternal aunt, and tie them up for fear that they will go out to him.”

Anas ibn Malik narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “Seventy thousand jews of Isfahan will follow the Dajaal, wearing shawl-like garments.” [Muslim]

Isfahan is a city in central Iran, approximately 340km south of Tehran. According to official sources it has 25-30,000 jewish inhabitants.

Abu Hurayrah (ra) narrated that the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “The Dajaal will camp at Khooz [western Iran] and Kirmaan [a region in south-east Iran] with 70,000 [people] whose faces are like hammered shields.”

Anas ibn Malik (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “No part of the earth will be left except that the Dajaal will enter and prevail over it, except for Makkah and Madinah. All the roads leading to them will have an angel standing guard on it. He [the Dajaal] will camp in the salt marsh and Madinah will be shaken with its people three times, and every disbeliever or hypocrite will come out of it.” [agreed upon]

Abu Dharr (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said. “Apart from the Dajaal, what I fear most for my Ummah is misguided leaders.” [Ahmad]

Protection against Dajjaal

The Prophet (ﷺ) has ordered us to run away from the Dajjaal, not to confront him, and to memorise the first or last 10 verses of Surat Al-Kahf, or to live in either Makkah or Madeenah (as the Dajjaal cannot enter these two places).

 Dajaal 5 med

Bismillah-hir Rahman-nir Raheem (in the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful)

There is no fitna that we have been warned against more than the Fitna of the Dajjaal. It will be such that many people, Muslims included, will fall prey to it. So you need to be on your guard against this.

The Deceit of the Dajaal

The Dajaal is the great deceiver.

Hudhayfah ibn Al-Yamaan (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He will have with him a garden and a fire but his fire will be a garden and his garden will be fire.” [Muslim]

The Prophet (ﷺ) said, “I know what the Dajaal will have with him. He will have two flowing rivers, one that appears to the eye to be clear water and one which appears to the eye to be flaming fire. If anyone sees that, let him go to the river which he thinks is fire.” [Muslim]

Al-Nawwaas ibn Sam’aan (ra) narrated that the Prophet (ﷺ) said, “He will come to a people and call them, and they will believe in him. Then he will command the sky and it will rain, and he will command the earth and it will bring forth produce. Their herds will come back to them in the evening with their humps as high as they ever were and their udders full and their flanks stretched. Then he will come to another people and call them, and they will reject what he says, so he will leave them and they will be afflicted with drought (which will destroy their land and crops). He will pass by ruins and say, ‘Bring forth your treasure’, and its treasure will follow him like a swarm of bees.” [Muslim]

In another hadith: The Dajaal will say to a bedouin, “What do you think if I resurrect your father and mother for you, will you bear witness that I am your Lord?” He will say “yes.” Then two devils will appear to him in the forms of his father and mother and will say, “O my son, follow him, for he is your Lord.” [Ibn-Maajah and Al-Haakim]

In another hadith: The Dajaal will call a youthful man and sever him in two. Then the Dajaal will say to the people, “Look at this slave of mine, I shall resurrect him, and he will claim that he has a Lord other than me.” The Dajaal will then command him to rise, alive, and he will get up; [he] will have been given life by Allah and not the Dajaal, but the Dajaal will think that he brought him back to life and placed the two [severed] halves back together again. Then the evil one will say, “Who is your Lord?” He [the man] will say, “My Lord is Allah and you are the enemy of Allah; you are the Dajaal.”

In another narration:

The Dajaal will emerge and a man from among the believers will go towards him and he will be met by armed men, who are the bodyguards and supporters of the Dajaal. They will say to him, “Where are you going?” He will say, “I am going to this one who has emerged.” They will say to him, “Don’t you believe in our lord?” He will say, “There is nothing hidden about our Lord. They will say, “Kill him,” They will say to one another , “Didn’t your lord forbid you to kill anyone without his consent?” So they will take him to the Dajaal and when the believer see him, he will say, “People, this is Al-Maseeh Ad-Dajaal, whom the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) mentioned.” The Dajaal will order that he be made to lie spread-eagled on the ground. He [the Dajaal] will say, “Take him and strike him on the head,” and he will be beaten severely on his stomach and back. Then he will say, “Do you not believe in me?” He will say, “You are the false messiah.” Then it will be ordered that he be cut in two with a saw, from the middle of his head to between his legs. Then the Dajaal will walk between the two pieces and will say to him, “Get up,” and he will stand up straight. Then the Dajaal will say to him, “Do you believe in me?” He will say, “It has only made me more certain about you.” The believer will then say, “People, he will not do it to anyone after me.” Then the Dajaal will take hold of him and slaughter him, but the area between his neck and collar bone will be turned into copper and he will not be able to harm him. Then he will take hold of his hands and feet and throw him, and the people will think that he threw him unto Hell but he will be thrown into Paradise. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “This will be the greatest of martyrs before the Lord of the Worlds.” [Muslim]
